I'm Emily. Before Amaurine I was a quantitative analyst — years of models and markets, and a job I was good at and hated. What I kept coming back to, on the train and at my desk, was jewellery: the pieces I wanted and could not find, fine enough to wear every day, real enough to keep. At some point wanting them stopped being enough. I left, and I started choosing them.
That is my job now. I choose every piece Amaurine sells, and I find the people who make them. Five collections, each named for the metal it is made in. Souveraine is gold vermeil — a heavy layer of 18K gold over solid 925 sterling silver, and 24K on the pieces that ask for it. Lumière is 18K and 14K gold over sterling, for the hoops and fine chains you wear two and three at a time. Éternelle is gold over steel, so a cuff keeps its round and a slim band holds its circle. Étoilée sets certified VVS1 moissanite in solid sterling. Opaline is pearl, baroque and freshwater, on vermeil and on sterling. Every piece names its karat and its metal before you buy it.
Every piece is crafted to order and checked by hand in Sydney before it is boxed, so what reaches you has been looked at by someone who cares whether the clasp sits right. It arrives in the Amaurine box, ready to give or to keep. I wear the Voûte Bar Necklace most days — a stone-set bar bent to the line of the collarbone, refined and understated, and unlike anything else I own.
